The effect that male animals (in particular chickens) which, if placed with one
female will service her once only, but if placed with a dozen will service
each one - once.
The mechanism involved here is clearly more complex than simple sexual
drive. The same behavior has frequently been claimed of, and by, human males. It is much less commonly reported of
females.
