A common attribute of all governments is that they
interfere unnecessarily in the lives and businesses of their populations.
Governments overrate what can be done through government intervention, and
this is for several reasons.
- There is a natural tendency for people to overrate themselves, and think
they can solve problems they can't.
- The kinds of people who choose to enter politics do so because they believe that politicians
can achieve more than the actually can.
- Politicians are continually being asked the question 'what are you
doing about ...', and no politician ever got elected by saying
'Nothing - people can sort that out for themselves'. This is because
the electorate has a subsidization mentality,
and many actually want a nanny state which controls their lives.
