All social creatures have some identity as a member of a group. It may be membership of a family unit, hive, flock or even a political party. A nationalist identifies with a nation.

Nationalism is another term which has been hijacked by special interest groups, and equated to national expansionism (effectively slavery over others). This allows people who identify with their country to be discredited, and therefore surreptitiously presents policies such as an open-border policy to be the only politically correct option.
