Groups can be unorganized, self-organizing, or organized (ie organizations).
Ultimately organization involves a small group taking responsibility for a large group, and hence rely on a pyramid-structure for responsibilities, and the entities between the bottom and the top are called managers. Senior managers are often called executives.
Executives are one of the reasons why self-organizing groups are generally more efficient than organizations.
A command economy is an organization, whereas a free market is self-organizing.
