• Should a sick patient of African descent be checked for sickle-cell-anemia? It is almost unknown in other populations, but one in 400 African-Americans carries the (recessive) gene. Is a doctor who insists on that extra check being racist?
• What if someone is making a film which requires certain characteristics, and they reject someone because of race? Does that mean they are being racist? What if the movie is about racism? Should we refuse the (highly paid) part of the slave owner to someone just because they are not white?

Hence this definition does not really fit with the common use of the word, nor does it really meet the political needs of the victim-interest groups.

Others have suggested a more acceptable definition:

However this does not meet all the needs of the victim interest groups, who are fond of coming out with statements like

"This legislation discriminates on the basis of race, therefore it is racist."

An extraordinary statement from someone who also advocates legislation specifically benefiting people of particular minority racial groups. Apparently legislation designed to benefit 2 percent of the population does not disadvantage the other 98 percent, yet legislation which benefits 98 percent and disadvantages the other 2 percent can be regarded as racist.
