D: Discriminating against some because of their race.
This may sound like a good definition, but it begs embarrassing questions.

Hence this definition does not really fit with the common use of the word, nor does it really meet the political needs of the victim-interest groups.

Others have suggested a more acceptable definition:

D: The vilification or hatred of an individual because of their race.

However this does not meet all the needs of the victim interest groups, who are fond of coming out with statements like

"This legislation discriminates on the basis of race, therefore it is racist."

An extraordinary statement from someone who also advocates legislation specifically benefiting people of particular minority racial groups. Apparently legislation designed to benefit 2 percent of the population does not disadvantage the other 98 percent, yet legislation which benefits 98 percent and disadvantages the other 2 percent can be regarded as racist.
