We frequently hear descriptions like 'technology is what is destroying the world' and suchlike, but this is a claim of outcome, not a definition.
We also hear descriptions like 'technology is computers and stuff', but this is just muddy thinking.
Technology is something that allows you to do more with the same, or the same with less. It might be a new tool which does the job faster. It might be a new management structure which allows better decision making. It could simply be knowledge that allows you to do something better. It might also be 'computers and stuff'.
Advances in technology do not have to be detrimental to the world ecology though in practice all human cultures have destroyed the environment as fast as their technology would allow. Technology could also be the key to protecting the environment.
Morons and neo-Luddites alike seem to think that technology causes unemployment.
