If you are referring to the current polls putting The Left slightly in front, I'll point out that this is not Little Johnny's lowest point, suggesting there are many other factors involved in popularity.

Ain't democracy a terrible thing. If only you had your way eh? Bigger and more powerful government will make us all so much better if only we could find politicians who didn't lie. Good luck!

Lying is not just an unfortunate characteristic of politicians - it is sometimes necessary for diplomatic purposes. Do you really want a politician who says "well, if Tasmania were invaded, it wouldn't really be worth defending". It may true, but stating it just puts people at risk.

The solution is not bigger and more powerful government who interferes in your life more and more every year. The answer is small government which does the least damage.

Little Johnny may well lose the coming election, if he does then so be it. All politicians lie, and consequently all have a shelf-life. Johnny has been pretty clean when compared to many of his colleagues ('L-A-W law' ring a bell?), and that is why he has lasted 30 years in parliament. Maybe he should have read the label which said 'best before 64 years old', but we'll wait and see.

If Mark (Maddog) Latham wins the election - how long will it be before his lies catch up with him? What will his shelf-life be?

(and in fairness to The Left, how long will Peter (Smirky) Costello's be?)
