Wearing a bikini at the beach is not raunch. It is a good way to get a suntan and a convenient way to swim. It explicity covers the erogenous zones on the female body. Ugly women in their 80's also bath at the beach in bikinis so any suggestion that it is "raunch culture" is pathetic. Men wear less than women at Australian beaches, does this promote homosexuality? And when exactly did John Howard criticise women who wear the Burkha? In any case wearing the Burkha in Australia, where it is not mainstream, is more an act of pride than an act of modesty. Women who wear the Burkah stand out and provoke some intolerant westerns to attack them with verbal abuse. If I had any daughters I would not advise them to wear a Burkah. Given a choice between gender equality and multiculturalism I would go with the former.
