Most countries at one time did not allow dual citizenship. The reasoning is that you can't owe allegiance to more than one country at a time. What is really arrogant is the US rule on income. They're entitled to tax income whereever a US citizen makes it, no matter their US residency status. They do throw you a bone and exempt 80k in earned income. Portugal and Spain think the same.
