I think you will find that the difference between male vs. female scores in school performance has been increasing across most countries in the OECD, including ones that haven't screwed up their curriculums. The same is true across different states of Australia, where the extent that the curriculums have been changed differs hugely. It is therefore likely that the trend toward making curriculums "girl-friendly" is only a small part in the drop in boys scores over the past decade or so, and that other factors are playing a decent role to.
