In 1895 the British responded with military support to a request from Kuwait for assistance in obtaining autonomous rule from the Ottomans who had promised Kuwait self rule, but were not delivering. Did Iraq object? - No. Why? - because it did not then exist as a sovereign nation. Sounds like a pretty good reason to me.
