"A GST is supposed to get 10% of the the money paid to the girl AND 10% of the money then spend by the girl (as well as income tax in the middle). The cash transaction bypasses GST and income tax."

Silly me.

"I have been thinking about land taxes after reading some Ayn Rand. I have added to the wealth entry in the manifesto. I think there is much more justification in taxing land, not on the market value of the land (which is mostly based on how close it is to a center of production), but on natural assets (a view, being near the sea or a river)."

Do you mean "land value taxation", that is, a broad based tax on the unimproved market value of the land?

This tax appeals to me, but are rights such as radio frequencies any different?

Federal Local and State Governments could be funded, by

GST

Land tax

Property fees or royalties on stuff other than land (e.g, copyright, UHF frequency,) (althoug I wonder how this would affect GST, re double taxation)

in the most sensible configuration, ending reliance on the Federal Government, subsidisation and for the most part, making taxation more efficient ( more correctly, less damaging)

:-) Yes the nasty capitalists hoarding food just to keep it from the starving masses for some unnamed (but by implication, evil) purpose .. :-)

Yeah, this is the take by www.taxreform.com.au They balme not having a land tax as a reason for skyrocketing landprices and inequity. Subsidising rich people through excessive cration of credit and Government bonds is more likely.

>> Owning the land uses up land non the less.

"And people who find that land too expensive can set up their own cities elsewhere. Frankly it annoys me that city centralization is so heavily subsidized (subsidized transport to take people to the center of the Sydney etc), but Carr is screaming that the city infrastructure is about to collapse."

That would be nice, but try to find infrastructure elsehwere, or a company that will build it - not to mention how the Fed inflates money, expands credit, pushing up real estate. And how the Government is reluctant to sell off usable land. If peopel got what they paid for out of the Government, they could have their infrastructure, or if taxes were not too high, there would be more private roads. Or at least the new privatised roads would recieve funding elsewhere than in the CBD.

"Yes, Bob - collapsing would be the best thing for it - more people would move away from the city and enjoy a higher standard of living instead of paying $1,000,000 for an inner-city chicken-coop so they can work in the center of Sydney."

I'v noticed people are reluctant to move away from Sydney. It's as though Kurungai and Casula are on the edge of the world. Despite how quiet it is, I think I have it better where an amred robbery using a bseball bat makes it on to the news.

.. but maybe that's a subject for another time.
