well... no. the point is that U.S. subsidies hurt african farmers because africa is a food exporter. You correctly point out that the subsidies hurt Australia because we export, but you say they don't hurt africans? The reason people continue to starve is not that the country does not produce enough food. In this international age, the consumption of a country does not need to be related to its production. They starve because they're poor. Now - you're right that the main reason they're poor is their corrupt, socialistic, undemocratic governments... but the US farm subsidies make things worse. The best thing that the US government could do to help the 3rd world and africa in particular would be for them to walk the talk... and introduce free trade. If the US government ended all foreign aid, and freely traded with africa, then africans would be better off, US taxpayers would be better off, US consumers would be better off and the US and Africa would experience higher growth. So, as far as I can tell - the call for an end to US farm subsidies is the only smart thing to come out of the summit!
