hear the word 'encourage' in the context of conversations about government
regulation. People are 'encouraged' to purchase Australian products through tariffs,
'encouraged' to listen to Australian music through radio play-quotas,
'encouraged' to participate in multiculturalism through subsidies .. The phrase 'I personally encourage' usually distinguishes
this use of government force from my personal non-coercive persuasions. Of course, there is already encouragement for DIY butchering - The lamb
chops I had for dinner on Sunday night were straight from the farm without
going through the saleyards, slaughterhouse or the butcher. GST-free mutton
tastes pretty good too. Not so good for the waistline though ..
