Remember forums are in the business of exchanging ideas and debating. Therefore it is entirely legitimate to hold academic discussions here. Note that many on the board have acquaintances, friends and family through which ideas can be disseminated. Ideas are often strengthened through debate and discussion. So there is great potential value in academic discussion. Others participate simply to clarify or test their own views. Your dismissive remark is rather stupid and/or naive I'm afraid.
