Unemployment benefits in Aust are probably more than basic wages in Thailand and Laos. Even in terms of purchasing power: a dole recipient in Aust is, IMO, better off. The ability to pay out social security comes from wealth of society, aided of course by the state's "right" to exact taxes and redistribute wealth. Libertarianism is hard to sell because, I fell, the majority of people still believe in a centrally-planned Egalitarian Utopia. State-education is once such institution of this centrally-planned Egalitarian Utopia.
