The Muslims are the first group of migrants I've experienced in my lifetime (post WWII) about whom I've had serious reservations about ever fitting into Australian society. Asians share most of our values and in my view are excellent migrants on the whole, except they are shocking drivers and they make their kids work too hard academically, thus providing unfair competition for places in selective schools (just kidding!). Nevertheless today's violence at Cronulla is inexcusable, no matter how much the mob will plead provocation. The worst feature of it will be the gloat factor about our evil racist ways in the SMH (wait till you see the letters!), and the ABC (won't Red Kezza be in his element tomorrow night?). You'll also see a huge bucket tipped in Four Corners in about four weeks time (or however long it takes for them to compile a bucket-load). And Kerry Nettle, Bob Brown and Stott-Despoia just don't bear thinking about when the ABC shoves a microphone in front of them for the next week or so. And then there'll be Malcolm Fraser... In no time the bashing of the lifesavers will be presented as their own fault.
