Death is natural and if we slit the throat of lambs in traditional farming and given them anesthetic in modern farming it would not change my position. Death is not my primary objection. Some intensive modern farming techniques ensure that the life of the animal is horrid. Its the circumstances of the animals life that concern me far more than the particulars of their death. Not all modern farming is cruel. Its just that as a consumer its increasingly difficult to know what you are eating and the circumstances of the animals life. If you eat your pet goose then at least you can be reasonably certain that it had a good life.
