» A not very intelligent design debate   2005-12-22 09:59 Terje Petersen

I went to a NSW public School and we had scripture lessons in which Intelligent Design was taught (although only in the periphery).

The only problem I have with schools teaching Intelligent Design is:-

a) They should not put it in the science subjects. b) They should not let it displace other more important subject matter.

When I studied engineering at university there were several "general studies" subjects that I had to complete. These were frequently filled with clap trap. So its not like we are talking about something new.

However I don't think that the theory of evolution is typically discussed in a very scientific way either. Some seem to have forgotten that its a theory and have elevated it to the status of being a scientific law. And when I was taught evolution at high school it was mostly dogma. Asking challenging questions seemed to get me the same dumb stare that I previously got only in scripture lessons. Usually followed by a set of platitudes that made no logical sence.
