In defence of strawman, conspiracy theorists are actually quie threatening to libertarians.

There might be an issue in the media for example. Both the lefty anti-banking nutter and libertarian both agree that the problem is terrible. The libertarian and lefty nutter (and sometimes, right wing nutter, the fringe groups blur a little) both have totally different ideas as to why the porblem occurs or how to rid ourselves of the problem. The obstacle for a libertarian is that conspiracy theories also play on the sympathies of common people, even the highly educated and wealthy. As fantastic and outrageous the conspiracy or solution proposed by our fringe nutter friend, the libertarian is likely to get shouted down as they do not agree with "common knowledge" that capitalism leads to monopoly, etc, and various other bullshit which can be rejected by theory and empirical evidence.

Fortunately we've had libertarian leading conservatives MPs and the lefty minor parties do step in from time to time defending due process etc (despite their foppishness) whislt we've never had a Citizens Electoral Council MP and only one MP affiliated with the League of Rights.

There is a second problem - by being forced to debate these confused individuals, the bysander who doesn't get the argument but knows the reputation of CEC, ALOR etc draws conclusions as to our sanity vis a vis the company we keep.
