There was a rumour that the mobile phone networks were shut down in central London for fear of them being used to detonate bombs remotely. A more credible scenario is that around 3 million central London workers all tried to use their phones simultaneously, overloading the network. There have have reports that priority has been given to emergency services mobile and land lines. It wasn't comlpetely shut down as I used my mobile at around 10am London time and was able to reassure family in Perth at around 11am. There doesn't seem to be any consistency to news of what's happened. I'm about 7.5 miles west from the closest incident at Edgeware Road Station, business (almost) as usual out here. Some friends working closer to the scene than me have been evacuated, others, like me have remained at work catching what news reports we can.
