Wrong - innocent people being executed is so rare in Western countries that not one case has been reliably documented since 1972. Note the great opportunity of all you know-it-alls out there to prove me wrong here - just name the guy. A lot of noise gets made about appeals where the death penalty is lifted - this is reasonably common in the US. In most cases the penalty is reduced from death to life in prison, generally on legal technicalities.
