I agree 100% with ABL. If the police actually followed up and prosecuted the Lebanese gangs who have been causing problems for years, this sort of thing would never come to a head. The riots happened because police have been seen to be doing nothing for far too long. As much as government would like to ignore the fact, people are actually quite capable of defending themselves when under attack. They'll wait for the police to do their job, but failing that they'll do it themselves. The fact that innocent people get caught in the crossfire is why police replaced mob rule in the first place. But when the police are too busy running speed radars and RBTs and giving speeches on "community awareness" to track down and punish violent offenders, then the mob will do their job for them, with often disatrous results.
