Well Strawman, what do you pay per dollar for a General usurping power outright, given the double benefit of not having his nation microwaved, and being king of the dungpile, marble columns, callgirls and all? He could even make a name for himslef by being a reformer, a la Peter the Great. There would have to be some incident, like a blockade, and china would have to sit it out or side with the West. Why this would happen, I haven't made up a reason yet.
