>> Hello Strawman, Hi Caroline! >> I just stumbled upon your site and read a few of the things that you have
>> here and I need some clarification... Need? NEED? Ahh. Another needy woman. Okay then, go on. >> Do you resent women? No. Do you resent Germans just because some of them are Nazis? >> After reading what you had to say about sex and pornography, I got the feeling
>> that you do. Well, Caroline, you are entitled to your opinion. However wrong it may be. >> When you speak about women, you liken them to a big group that has
>> no divisions, shares the same interests the world over and has across history. No, you are wrong. When I speak about a group of people, I observe patterns in
the group, and comment accordingly. Traits characteristic of any group are rarely
universal, and intelligent people recognize that. Why is this so hard for you? >> For example, when you spoke about women knowingly dying from sex because the
>> urge to have sex was so great... you totally denied the fact that many times
>> (even since a millenia ago), that women may not have had the choice whether to
>> have sex or not. Wrong again, Caroline. I never denied this fact. In _many_ cases it is true
that women did not have a choice. In traditional Australian Aboriginal culture
women had pretty much no rights. In Islamic culture today we see the same thing.
I think this is discraceful. I have never denied this. >> In many cultures and in the past, women have been forced to
>> have sex with their husbands whether they liked it or not because it was their
>> "duty" as their wives. Yes Caroline. And in fact women in Islamic cultures have few rights today. We
are currently at war in the Middle East trying to bring civilization to a
violent barbaric society. Last time I checked it was not going well. Clearly
someone underestimated the difficulty of the task. However this does not change the fact that most of the sex that women were
having in Western society at the turn of last century was consentual. [Note: You may
like to to consider the terms 'consent' and 'force' in this context.] >> You probably know this yourself but there are many cases in your website
>> where you choose to ignore these important facts and choose instead to
>> distort the truth. I don't think people can take you seriously when you
>> blatantly try to do this. You are right. I have been meaning to write more on the systematic and
institutional abuse of women in modern Islamic and Aboriginal societies. I just
haven't gotten around to it yet. Feel free to write some articles on this
yourself. ... as a passionate INDY supporter of women's rights, I expect you to jump
at the opportunity. >> Another example was when you said that feminists
>> have said they felt "worthless" because of pornography. You twisted the truth
>> to make it seem as if feminists and most women feel their only significance in
>> a marriage or relationship is as a medium for sex. No, you are twisting the truth in making this claim. Women have traditionally
used sex to manipulate men (and it's not happening any less in the modern age).
The easy availability of pornography makes this manipulation slightly harder,
as they find themselves competing with an inferior good. I too would like the government to legislate to prevent people from competing
with me. In fact many people in many industries achieve this. While the
practice makes some people rich, it makes everyone else much poorer. >> The truth is that pornography can degrade women because of the sexual themes
>> and representation of women in pornography... the theme of rape, for
>> example... I'm sure that you know this yourself... Hmm .. You seem to be you likening women to a big group that has no divisions
and shares the same interests the world over and across history. Oops - that's
what you accused me of. Is there a pattern here? So pornography CAN degrade women. And? You are not arguing that it DOES - just
that it CAN. Well, yes pornography CAN degrade women. And men too. I can refer
you to some pornographic sites which degrade men if you don't believe me. But
somehow I don't see organized groups of masculinists screaming for affirmative
action as compensation for the existance of pornographic sites on the internet. >> Why is it then that you decide to write as if you want to convince your
>> readers that women are abusing men sexually and are aware of this? Can you demonstrate that I am doing this - or is this just another
undemonstrable feminist claim? [Who'd have thought?] I don't recall using the term 'abuse'. I think the term was
'manipulation'. They are quite different. >> This is obviously not the case. You set the strawman up quite nicely there didn't you? Are you qualified in
WIMMIN!'s Studies? >> Your site would be interesting if you weren't trying so hard to bend those few
>> unknowing souls into thinking your same twisted, misogynist and chauvinist
>> views. Clearly my site is already interesting enough to attract the readership (and
the ire) of angry little feminists. I'm happy with the way it is. Thanks for reading. Strawman..
