I dont consider it a particularly wise choice (but in our era of highly regulated (read: 'and hence overpriced') education I can see why she considered the option. The government does not exist to prevent people from doing stuff we consider stupid. Im sure there are many Libertarians (and many 'Objectivists' (i.e. the Peikhoffian Randroids)) that would consider my choices stupid ("Your music taste reflects a malevolent sense of life" et al.). I dont care what they think. Yes people make dumb decisions. But that armed gang known as the State is bad enough in a small role (even if it IS needed). However, has anyone else noticed that if you morally condemn something, others assume you would ban it? I always get asked if I would forbid pop music or team sport (none of which I would forbid) on the grounds that I hate both. People automatically assume that the State's role is to 'improve our character'... that premise seems to be accepted by default.
