defined by our lords and masters. I should add that I am appalled by the fact
that he was refused a passport. I have heard of other 'militant' (read
fanatical) types being warned that yes, they could get a passport, but by the
time they got around to wanting to come back, they may not be allowed back into
the country. This has scared a few off. The thought of being denied access to
the welfare tit was just too scary, and they crawled back into their cosy
welfare-funded homes. My understanding is that they can't refuse to let you back into Australia
if you are an Australian citizen. They can of course throw you in prison as
soon as you get off the plane, but only if they charge you with committing a
crime (or are holding you temporarily under new powers). [If anyone can
elaborate, please do so.] However they can strip you of your citizenship in certain cases - including
if you serve in the armed forces of another country. [Again, if I'm wrong please correct me.] While I am totally opposed to keeping Australian citizens locked in
Australia, or refusing them re-entry, I have no problem with stripping ratbags
of their citizenship while they are gone (Hicks comes to mind). Receiving
military training with Al Qaeda is close enough to serving in a foreign
army. My attitude is just to let them go, and revoke their citizenship as soon
as their plane leaves. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
