Im not sure about immigration to Australia, but in the States any applicant must agree that they do not have any affilliations with any totalitarian organisation. However they also have that amendment thingy about freedom of religion. So in the case of certain sects of Islam, one could rule the other out. It would take Islam to be declared an ideology rather than a religion before any actions could be taken to restrict immigration on that basis(in a free society anyway). Do we have anything in our constitution about keeping out those who seek to overthrow the 'crown' like in the UK?
