Strawman I can prove my assertion, federal parliament has a long list of powers, it can do no more, but pretty comprehensive. Look at the way it used a treaty to overrule a state. The States have all residual power. We have no bill of rights, and legislation overrides any common law rights. Furthermore, the UN charter on human rights was accepted by our Parliament, but on it's conditions and can be repealed or be invalid due to new legislation. If parliament decided to do so, it could lock up peter garret for being peter garret. Bills of attainder may be a no no under the magna carta and english bill of rights, but legislation has and will override common law rights. Any court case can be overturned, and any ruling is just judges making the law perhaps to what it ought to be, not what it is. The above post agreed with TN that representative democracy, especially here, well, stinks.
