As a recent ex-member of the military, I cannot remember any "metal badges" on my uniform. Maybe they are referring to the tiny name plate worn with the dress uniform only. It's so small you'd probably fry your nipple in the attempt to make sparks anyway.
Also, from my bovine torturing childhood I remember the sparks from a cattle prod as somewhat underwhelming. A piece of polythene pipe had the range you needed for a moving target - and the army use small concealable telescoping batons for presumably the same reason. Either that or carrying a cattle prod in the trouser pockets was deemed dangerous to the contents of one's underwear. The whole "asylum seeker" issue makes me wonder why some risk it all to come here and then start whining?
