I've never had much trouble with spelling. When absorbing a word for the first time I must absorb the spelling. It is no particular effort for me, but I have since found out from my experience in the world that many, perhaps most people have problems with spelling, reading and writing. It just ain't natural as it may seem. It is a little-known fact that correct spelling didn't exist until Johnson brought in the first dictionary. Before that, you just spelt the word how you wanted. Chaucer used to spell the same word two different ways in the same line. While I am generally in favour of tolerance, and I know that mispelling really doesn't matter, I still think that mispellers should be taken out and shot.
