Jock, I imbibed Popper with my mother's milk. I think the test of science, as against faith, is that it is possible to describe a state of the world which would cause you to change your mind about the truth of your beliefs. In that spirit, just what would it take for you to conclude that the invasion and occupation was a mistake? It seems to me the war's remaining supporters are, like fundamentalists of all religions, clinging to their faith ever more tightly as the evidence against it grows ever stronger. On the Oil-for-Food scandal, no-one has seen any of the primary documents yet - given Ahmed Chalabi's track record (he's the one the documents came from) I'd be just a tad cautious before naming names here. In particular, if reports are correct the scandal involved a very wide range of nationalities - there's no evidence the French or Germans were particularly involved.
