I have never heard of such free enterprise involvement in fire protection. Could you show me some links? I am keenly interested. Why was it inadequate? Most things, besides the military and legal system can be privatised, to which there can be a large scale of decentralisation and market solutions within a State that consists largely of a police, military and courts. How did such a system inflict third party costs onto society? Do you mean that the Government doesn't inflict externalities, Why always a market failure, does it occur to you some Government actions can be a cost to third parties? Why can't a market based solution be coordinated - plenty of other essential things are produced and your consumption coordinated by the market process, such as food and medicine. To say the Government can coordinate, because it can is not an argument. Can you prove the market would be worse? There was clear case of Government failure. Right wing clap trap? If you mean this in purely economic terms, then fine. Strawman doesn't describe himself as libertarian (I do, and I think that is his grouping), but Libertarians are not "conservatives" and loathe the term.
