I agree with comments on other blogs about the total insensitivity of your opening paragraph. A lot of what you say about Canberra is quite true, but to say many Australians are happy to see Canberrans experience such a disaster is indecent. It may be true to say "some" (not many) Australians (obviously including you) may feel that way, but then again some Australians engage in looting burnt-out buildings - hardly typical Australian behaviour.
This is without doubt the worst comment I've seen in the blogosphere in the last week, followed by Tim Dunlop's indecent politicising of John Howard's entirely appropriate remark about the terror of the bushfires.
Strawman, you are in danger of becoming the right's Noam Chomsky.
