>>The ABC enjoys notoriously low ratings I thought it was about 8%? Admittedly a pretty poor showing when you do a
budget comparison with the other networks, and consider that the ABC can show
programs without commercials, but significant enough for other players to be
interested in the niche if the ABC were disbanded or sold. >> BTW, where did you get the figures that "the majority of ABC viewers
>> actually vote Liberal?" I don't recall producing any figures - just making the statement. I can't
prove this - it's all anecdotal, but I will invite you to do the same
test. When you meet someone 'randomly' who is not a) working or studying at a
University; or b) part of a political group you choose to be associated with
probe enough to satisfy your self a) what TV station they prefer watching and
b) which party they vote for. Not a robust or scientific measure for sure, but the most rigorous one I am
willing to do without one of those governments grants they hand out for this
kind of thing. The first time someone (a leftie) pointed out that the majority ABC
audience was Liberal voting, I just scoffed 'rubbish' until I actually thought
it through. Bear in mind that I didn't say the majority of the ABC's
Canberra audience voted Liberal - just the overall audience. Canberra
is the only city in Australia which actually benefits from taxation.
Canberra is not Australia. As Barry Humphries (of Dame Edna fame) once said of Canberra: 'and the
best thing is that it is only half an hours drive from Australia'. The ABC Liberal thing is an assertion, but I would welcome any evidence to
the contrary.
