It is certainly a law and order issue in the short term. Despite the fact that elements of the mob have clearly gone overboard, the mainstream motivations are clear: people are sick of the police not doing their job. If the state is not willing to do its job (which is often the case), then somebody is going to fill the void. It's just human nature. However: "If the police actually followed up and prosecuted the Lebanese gangs who have been causing problems for years, this sort of thing would never come to a head." But of course, that begs the question: why do we have Lebanese gangs here in the first place?
