Strawman is full of shit. Anyone who thinks that some old people don't get lonely should talk to banks and GP surgeries where there are queues of oldies seeking some form of social interaction. Some sort of systematic well-meaning neighbourly intervention is likely to be rolled gold for these people. Strawman thinks some of them want to be alone? He's probably right. But they can cheerfully tell whoever turns up at the door to sod off. Worst case is that thousands of oldies spend their final years a bit more cheerily than would otherwise be the case. To argue against the encouragement of more active caring in the community is pathetic.
