Women are highly competitive creatures, and many believe (rightly or wrongly) that larger breasts will make them more attractive to a partner.
Many women, years after they get breast implants, develop health problems, and class actions have been taken against the manufacturers of the implants on the grounds they are unsafe.
The US is highly litigious, and the decisions and payouts have little to do with actual responsibility or common sense.
In particular, many breast-implanted women who develop connection tissue disease, have taken class actions against the breast implant manufacturers. Common sense suggests the following:
That's about 10,000 women. And (you guessed it) about 10,000 women in the US have both breast implants and connection tissue disease.
But common sense has nothing to do with the legal process. An aging, sick, uneducated woman does not understand the simple mathematics - she understands only two things - that she has breast implants, and that she is in pain, and it is logical for her to connect the two. She makes an excellent and credible witness, and the jury rules that the well run and profitable company pay her a small fortune. They call it 'justice'.
