People claim that peace is the ultimate goal, and peace will everyone better off. This is naive. For someone living in a wealthy nation with a high level of natural resources (land, water, oil etc) per person, peace is clearly in their interests. The absence of war means that no-one can suddenly take it away from them.

For a citizen in an overcrowded third world country however things appear very different. Securing a share of the resources appears very attractive even if it involves considerable personal risk.

In particular, many Muslims claim to want 'peace'. However their idea of peace often seems to be a world in which Islam is the only religion, and every person is forced to worship their god. Sometimes war is justified.
