Communism and socialism are not compatible with human nature, so they don't work. But free markets work so well that even the privileged governing class has been impressed. The dictatorship of the legislatures is not a great conspiracy - it is just a convergence of elite self-interest that has continually sabotaged free trade for hundreds of years. Before that the dictatorship of the kings did the same thing.

What I keep saying is that the market for government services (the electoral market) is not competitive - that's why it delivers such a bad result. There is no reason to give anybody a geographic monopoly in government services, and you can be sure a free market would not deliver a monopoly.

As our understanding human behaviour (economics) improves, free markets in government services will emerge.
