Your use of the term "normally" is criticial here. Credibility can also be lost by asserting, after attempting to defend a positive statment on its own merits and coming up short, that the statement is in fact a normative statement. In any case, the statement that "Yasser Arafat was a wonderful man" is a normative statement, yet making it would affect one's credibility.
