The whole Abbott thing has another fascinating aspect to it: the weighing in on his side of a whole lot of journalists who or normally quite unkind to the right of politics. This is interesting because many of those journalists are rarely reluctant to put the boot into PM Howard on any faint whiff of an excuse. Abbott seems, if anything, to be a little more to the right of Howard, yet he is typically treated in a respectful way. Why? Is he a beaut bloke in his personal relationships? Is it because he was apparently himself a former journalist? Any thoughts on this one?
