While I'm inclined to agree with unfettered disclosure by the media, I'm less inclined to them being a party to breaches of the Geneva protocol. What Al-Jazeera did was very wrong, and made itself part of a wider contempt for the protocol by the Iraqi leadership. That said, I believe US media also made the mistake of showing faces of Iraqi POWs (albeit far less intrusively). There is also the simple matter of courtesy where the US Army will want to tell relatives of dead or captured soldiers what has happened before they hear it through the media. The media cooperates with this point on civilian deaths every day.
