You're right that the opposite of rational is irrational. But by having a "pragmatic belief" in democracy, are you saying that it's not really a better system, but that you know how to personally profit from it?

One example I thought of today. Let's say that when you got married, the contract included a clause specifying a court or judge you agreed on to arbitrate any dispute you may have arising from the marriage contract. Would you choose the Family Court voluntarily, knowing its track record? Maybe you would prefer a different court, maybe less "feminist"? Maybe your bride-to-be would prevail on you, and maybe not, but wouldn't you rather have the choice? Yes you still have a choice today, but the choice is accept the government's jurisdiction, or don't get married.

Every contract your democratic government declares illegal is one less freedom we all have.
