A>>... representative democracy, especially here, well, stinks. S>Huh? And where does it work better than here? Tell me - I'll emigrate! I have to agree that democracy is a dreadful way to run society, but (as Churchill said) it is the best way which has been tried so far. Do you have a better suggestion? The left wing of the Liberal/Labor party has its share of strange characters as does the right wing. They've been in power since Adam was a little boy. You can't vote against taxation or anything else meaningful that is imposed on us by the bully boys of the governing class. We can spend time assassinating people's characters or we can de-regulate and let the market (us) decide our "government". Your question - "where does it work better than here?" - is just evidence of how difficult it is to get rid of a relatively benign entrenched governing class. Look how hard it was to overthrow even a mass murderer like Saddam! People take their state-authorized and state-subsidized job and get on with life. But it is happening - people are better-informed than ever - the agents of the state will have increasing problems snowing us. The old elitist representative system evolved straight out of the tradition of the divine right of kings, and became the divine right of the representatives. Why shouldn't normal free-market principles apply in our selection of "government" (or property security agents)? There should be no voting except with the currency of our choice whenever we feel the need to buy these services. So we have to get rid of the registration of political parties, fixed terms, deposits, government subsidies to the incumbents, ballots, electorates and all of the other barriers to entry that contribute to making "representation" a discredited myth. There is no magic that turns elected officials into altruistic deities. Not nobody, not nohow.
