When you talk about collective (Islamicist) will enforcing veil-wearing, are you alluding to the problem of French public housing ghettos concentrating Muslim populations and the resultant radical impulses of a fanatical culture? I get the impression that you are, and that you suggest that the best way of alleviating the cultural problem is alleviating the demographic/housing one. This may be so. But, in this modern age, would it not be quite easy for radical Muslims to concentrate their enforcement activities while having a more dispersed population? French cities, after all, are less sprawling than New World ones. It would be easy for gangs of radical Muslim youths to get on the metro and prowl around for "soumises" to subject to their violence. Would not a more dispersed Muslim population across France (notably Paris and Marseilles) simply cause the gangs to cast a wider net, possibly involving ethnically French women? This is what, apparently, happened in Sydney. One may say better a wall to fence them in than one to fence them out. Incidentally, the veil thing is not too great at containing Islamic "enforcement" anyway. Presumably, a good girl would be expected to don her chador or hijab or whatever once she leaves the school grounds. Adam
