?It is very difficult for women to have their voices heard in the public arena in this country.? No it?s not. Women have the same right, freedom and ability to speak out as everyone else. They form a majority in a number of professions in the public arena, and are employed and active in all industries, including government, media and universities. Then there are a host of government services specifically to provide benefits only for women. The public arena is filled with the voices of women, and men speaking out for women's rights. The idea that women are some kind of discriminated-against minority is simply false. ?Lots of women, especially women who have daughters are resentful of mostly male fashion designers dictating fashions for male taste. ? The people who buy female fashion designs are female, not male. Designers of female fashions are supplying the demands of female taste, not male taste. What is ?offensive? about pictures of women in scant underwear? Are they hurting someone? People who are offended at pictures of women in scant underwear are simply intolerant prigs, who should be ignored. I am offended at lots of things too. I find especially offensive, people who have the political opinion that it?s okay to use coercion to force other people into complying with their political opinion. Such people have caused far more hurt and harm than pictures of ladies in scant underwear. My concern is about real, not fake offensiveness. Should I complain to shopping center management to have such people removed?
The revolution in women?s rights which has taken place over the last 30 years, and which replaced or overturned patterns that were literally thousands of years old, could not have happened without the active support of men, who even in feminism?s own terms, held all the positions of power.
At a time when Australian women enjoy a level of freedom, security and prosperity unrivalled in the history of the world, we have also this female culture of resentful, whining, sneering hostility to men and men?s interests, based on non-facts and circular argument, of which your post is a good example.
