Personally (and this is just me) I try not to discriminate for or against people based based on race, religion, sex, sexual preference, or their bread of passport... etc If I know a person - I'm sad when they're sad (because my utility function includes the utility of my friends and associates). If I don't know the person - I'm sad, but not as sad. It's unfortunate - but if I was sad everytime a stranger died I'd be permanantly miserable! This is the distinction I draw. I'm not more upset when a white guy is killed than a black guy. I'm not more upset when a straight guy is killed rather than a lesbian. I'm not more upset when a christian I don't know from Broome is killed rather than a hindu from suva, fiji. If I don't them - it's unfortunate, but not personal for me. but each person is free to (I believe) discriminate for or against any group they choose, as long as they don't use govt money (ie my money) to do it. 24601
