No. I would auction off the property class of assets and property rights, and if needed, the smallest Government business enterprises (working up to alrger firms) to "buy out" Government funded non-unemployment welfare liabilities. Whatever is leftover, as in the above asset classes would be auctioned off for cash which would be distributed equally to all citizens, and any remaining larger companies, as the ones in your list (Snowy Hydro, Australia Post, SBS) can be corporatised (if not already) and equal allotments of shares can be gifted to all citizens, as you originally propose. In one hit we can wipe out social welfare and Governemnt inefficiency. After we adopt a strict monetary rule and repeal anti-competitive banking laws, then we can corporatise and gift shares of the RBA to the public. Strawman is actually wrong. If people really did own Telstra, they wouldn't sell, they'd support moves for telecommunications deregulation. The punter would have a large windfall from doing so.
