>> How does the GG being a Bishop conflict with the separation of
church and state? At first I read this and thought 'how daft', but it is actually a fair
question. My objection is: The problem is not with the GG being a Bishop, but with his selection
as a result largely because of being a Bishop. Likewise I have no problem with my boss being a lesbian feminist aboriginal - that's her
business - my problem is that she is my boss because is is a lesbian
feminist aboriginal, and a stupid one at that. Hollingworth was chosen by Howard because he somehow 'represented family
values' more than other people. Someone's religion is their choice, and in principle none of my business,
but the fact of the matter is that all organized religions are heavily based on
control. Taking responsibility for your
immortal soul to enter the gates of heaven is an around about way of saying
they have the right to control my life. They don't. They are even more
unsuited to politics than politicians. Being forced to vote for
a politician who will control my life is bad enough. But not being given the
right to vote out a religious politician who controls my life is unacceptable.
